Life for Mozambique – About Us
Life for Mozambique is a ministry of Life Covenant Church in Torrance, CA.  As a church we chose to focus all of our attention on one country with the goal of giving our very best in a single focused area of ministry.  The country of Mozambique quickly came to our attention because of its extreme poverty, its need for evangelization and quite simply because it is an often overlooked and forgotten country.
With these things in mind as well as the rampant spread of HIV and lack of educational opportunities we decided to begin our ministry within Mozambique in three main areas.

 Started by an indigenous couple in partnership with Life Covenant Church the Melanie Center is located outside Beira and is a community based ministry that cares for orphans providing shelter, food, medicine and education. More than half of the orphans in its care are HIV positive which is reflection of the condition of all children in Mozambique.  The Melanie center also acts as a community center in providing that same care for the community that surrounds it.  Food, medicine, and education are freely given to those in need.

In addition to meeting the physical and educational needs, the Melanie Center meets the spiritual needs of the community by providing a place of worship for them at Life Covenant Church, Mozambique which is pastored by the founder of the Melanie Center John.

Opportunity International:
One of the worlds’ leaders in micro-lending, Life Covenant Church has been partnered with Opportunity International from the very beginning.  Micro loans are considered to be one of the best and most sustainable long term solutions to poverty available.  The money that goes into OI is lent out, paid back and then lent out again.  Therefore the opportunities created by your donations become self perpetuating, helping more and more people out of the cycle of poverty.

The International School of Theology in Mozambique (ISTEM):
Located in the capitol city of Maputo, ISTEM is the only non-denominational seminary in the country of Mozambique.  In our initial research we discovered a deficit of good theological training.  Because of this there exists a great deal of syncretism where the old tribal beliefs and superstitions are combined with their new faith in Christ creating a twisting of the gospel.  With this in mind investing in good theological education seemed very appropriate.  Our support provides much needed student scholarships and the purchase of text books.

Our desire is to have a holistic ministry within the country of Mozambique, meeting physical, educational and spiritual needs so that Christ would be known and glorified.  There is such a great opportunity to change lives won’t you join us in transforming the lives of Mozambicans one soul at a time.
